Bringing Fresh Ideas Home from Fernandina Beach
Members of the Palmetto Downtown Main Street Board recently attended the 2025 POMS Conference — Preservation on Main Street — held in the beautiful, historic city of Fernandina Beach, Florida.
In attendance were:
Karon Dixon, Executive Director
Jordan Chancey, Board President
Ron Dixon, Board Member
POMS brings together passionate individuals from Main Street programs, CRA boards, tourism development, and civic leadership — all with a shared mission of historical preservation and place-making. It’s a powerful reminder that downtowns should serve everyone in the community.
As we walked Fernandina’s charming downtown — where a vibrant Main Street leads straight to the waterfront, surrounded by restaurants, tree-shaded sidewalks, well-kept storefronts, and civic pride — we couldn’t help but see a vision for what Palmetto could be.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing new ideas, observations, and proven strategies with city staff, community leaders, and you — the community that calls Palmetto home.
But here’s the truth: Downtown Palmetto is struggling. It’s time for more than inspiration. It’s time for action — from city leadership, from local businesses, and from residents like you.
We believe in a brighter, more vibrant Palmetto.
One that reflects our history, connection to the water, supports local business, and welcomes everyone.
Let’s get these ideas off the paper and into real life.
Will you join us?
