Palmetto’s 1914 Carnegie Library Receives New Roof Ahead of Peak Hurricane Season

Last Updated 8/15/2025Posted in Local News

The City of Palmetto has approved and begun installation of a new roof on our historic 1914 Carnegie Library — a vital step to preserve and protect the building’s structure, heritage, and archives before the height of hurricane season.

In addition to the roof project, the Palmetto Historical Park staff is undertaking a major archive organization and cataloging effort. As a result, the library will be closed to visitors throughout August.

“We’re committed to safeguarding Palmetto’s history for future generations, and this roof replacement is a key part of that mission,” said Palmetto Historical Commission President Jordan Chancey. “We appreciate the City’s support and look forward to welcoming the community back soon.”
